Privacy Policy

Freehearts ("we", "us") is a dating app for adults. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email support@freehearts.app.

The short version

• We collect only what the app needs to work: your account, profile, photos, approximate location and messages.
• We do not sell your information and we do not show ads.
• Other members see your profile, never your email, birth date or exact location.
• You can delete your account at any time, and your data is deleted with it.

Information you give us

• Account: email address, password (stored only in scrambled, one-way form), display name, birth date, gender and who you want to meet.
• Profile: "About me" text, photos, and optional details you choose to add, such as interests, what you're looking for, lifestyle, education, religion and politics. Optional details are shown only if you fill them in.
• Messages: chats with your matches.
• Reports: if you report someone, the reason and any details you give.

Information collected automatically

• Approximate location: when you tap "Update my location", the app uses your phone's coarse (approximate) location. We store it rounded to about 1 km, and other members see only a rounded distance.
• Usage: likes, passes, matches, blocks and when you were last active, so the app works properly.
• Technical: our server keeps short-term logs (such as IP address and time of request) for security and to stop abuse.

How we use it

• To run the app: show you people nearby, create matches and deliver messages.
• To keep members safe: block explicit words and links in chat, review reports, and suspend accounts that break our rules.
• To send you account emails, such as sign-up codes and password resets.

Who can see your information

• Other members see your display name, age, photos, "About me", optional details you chose to add, and a rounded distance.
• Matches also see the messages you send them.
• Service providers who help us run Freehearts, such as our hosting company (DigitalOcean, servers in the United States) and our email delivery service. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
• The law: we may share information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety.

We never sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Photos

Photos are re-saved when you upload them, which removes hidden data such as GPS location. They are only viewable by signed-in members inside the app, and the app blocks screenshots and screen recording. No app can stop someone photographing a screen with another camera, so only share photos you're comfortable with.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete account), your profile, photos, matches and messages are deleted from our live systems right away. Server logs are kept for a short time for security. If an account is suspended for breaking our rules, we may keep limited information to stop the same person signing up again.

Your choices and rights

• Edit or remove profile details and photos at any time in the app.
• Hide your zodiac sign; leave religion and politics as "Prefer not to say".
• Block anyone; they won't see you and aren't told.
• Delete your account in the app, or ask us for a copy of your information, by emailing support@freehearts.app.

Depending on where you live (for example California, or the European Union), you may have additional rights to access, correct or delete your information. Email us and we'll help.

Security

All connections to our server are encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored in scrambled, one-way form, and sign-in tokens are stored only as fingerprints. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

Adults only

Freehearts is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Freehearts, please report the profile or email us, and we will remove it.

Changes

If we make important changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app.
